  WORLD AFFAIRS INSTITUTE

Community Service Project of Rotary International and World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh

To: Rotary Club Presidents in Districts 7280, 7300, 7330

From: Schuyler Foerster, President, World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh
(and Past President, Rotary Club of Pittsburgh)

Subject: 37th Annual World Affairs Institute, November 15, 2007
David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Details for the World Affairs Institute, an annual collaboration of Rotary Districts 7280, 7300, and 7330 and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, are as follows:

• The Institute will be held on Thursday, November 15, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh.
• This year’s topic is China and the U.S.
• Each Rotary Club has the opportunity to sponsor and select top scholastic Student Delegates from public, parochial, or private schools in its area.
• Because the total number of Student Delegates is limited to approximately 300, please do the following as soon as possible:

1. Determine how many Student Delegates your Club will sponsor ($75 per delegate).

2. Complete YELLOW SCHOLARSHIP REQUEST CARD(S) and return to the Council office by September 21, together with a check made payable to the World Affairs Council.  (If check is delayed, please send yellow cards ahead.)

3. Deliver BLUE REGISTRATION CARD(S) and student selection criteria sheets to Interact coordinators or appropriate teachers at your school(s) who will choose the Student Delegates. The Council office can provide you with a teacher contact. (Additional blue cards are available from Council or can be copied.)

4. When completed and signed by their parents/guardians, Student Delegates should forward BLUE CARDS to the World Affairs Council by October 12 to make sure they receive information about the Institute and have time to read the Council-produced background paper.

Rotarians are invited to attend the Institute or may sponsor teachers or their own children/grandchildren by providing a family scholarship, apart from the Student Delegates sponsored by their Club ($75 per person).

We hope your Club will extend participation in this unique educational program to students in your school district.  If you have any questions about the Institute or your Club’s participation, please call Becky Wright or Annie Prucey, World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, 412-281-7970, or send an e-mail to becky@worldaffairspittsburgh.org or annie@worldaffairspittsburgh.org.

Thank you for your continued generous support of this unique and important Rotary project.
